  1. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S., according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). Skin cancer accounts for about half of all cancers. Melanoma is responsible for just 4 percent of skin cancers but for 79 percent of skin cancer deaths.
  2. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women according to the ACS. It kills more Americans than colon, breast and prostate cancer combined. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of death each year.
  3. According to the National Institute on Aging, 80 percent of prostate cancer cases occur in men over the age of 65. African American men have a higher risk at all ages. The cause of that higher risk is unknown. The ACS suggests that all men over the age of 50 get yearly screenings.
