  1. Getting older makes it more likely we'll get LESS sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, middle aged and elderly people experience at least four types of sleep disorders more frequently than younger people.
  2. Excessive snoring can indicate a very serious disorder called sleep apnea. In sleep apnea, breathing actually stops for up to ten seconds or longer at a time. The sleeper can wake up gasping for air, but many times the sleeper doesn't even remember it.
  3. According to the National Sleep Foundation, nine percent of American adults (or one in 11) report that they have been diagnosed with some type of a sleep disorder, including insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and/or sleep apnea.
